Tee & Y Adapters

What are Tee & Y Adapters for?

Tee & Y Adapters – Fittings in its most basic sense are piping or tubing attachments which can be detached and attached to other tubes and lines or act as a connecting piece for two or more tubes and pipes. While normally found in plumbing, fittings are also significant in the automotive world because they connect the necessary pipes and hoses together to keep fluid s that the vehicle needs to their respective units. Fittings come in all shapes and sizes, and in a variety of materials too.

Tee & Y Adapters – Types of Fittings

  • Compression Fittings
This type includes a body, nut, and ferrule or gasket ring. They have named compression fittings because they use pressure to tighten and thereby, strengthen connections
  • Caps/Plugs
These are placed usually at the end of the pipe to block the line’s path, acting much like a stopper.
  • Elbows
Normally in an “L” shape, this type of fitting is used when there is a change in direction in the piping system. These fittings can either come with a 90 degree or 45-degree bend.
  • Tee & Y Fittings
Whether to put together or split lines and pipes, each design has multiple openings as an expansion of the number of inputs and/or outputs in one fitting which intersect at 90 and 45-degree angles.
  • Cross fittings
These fittings are made to connect lines with three inputs and one output, or the other way around, through intersecting them at 90-degree angles.
  • Couplings
Short fittings meant to be permanent or semi-permanent, thus wielded through a series of nuts and bolts in place. These connect two pieces of tubing together.
  • Unions
Like couplings, these short fittings also connect two pipes but are usually temporary and are meant to be easily removed.

How to install T fitting into a hose boost gauge?

A boost controls the intake manifold of air pressure into the engine. A turbo boost gauge measures the amount of air pressure entering the intake which shows the power and heat build-up. When installing it, you will also need to hook up a T-fitting adapter to it hose. Here’s how:
Once you’ve installed the boost gauge into the mounting panel and directed the boost gauge through the vehicle’s firewall into the engine through its existing wiring system, pass the sender unit hose through the engine compartment to connect with the rest of the boost system.
Make sure the hose is secure which you can do through small tie-downs.
Connect the boost system through the vacuum hose that’s already there by inserting a “T” adapter into the tube, along with hoses and N/P adapters of the corresponding size.
Finally, wire the boost gauge via the car’s radio. This creates a path for the power and grounds required for the digital boost gauge’s operation. Be sure to check all lines that lead to the boost gauge and the boost system. Prospeed Parts has all types of fittings and adapters your vehicle will need for its piping and hose systems.
