What are quick release fasteners, exactly?
Quick release fasteners are aftermarket parts that are meant to fasten your bumper quicker. These are attached either in the front bumper, rear bumper, and/or hatch lids. While they are not necessary for all vehicle types, these meant for vehicles that need their bumpers or hatch lids detached frequently.
What type of vehicles use quick release fasteners?
Usually, vehicles that frequent the pits will benefit from this type of modification to expedite the process of removing either bumpers or the hatch lid. Another reason for applying this modification is if the vehicle is lowered. If it is transported on a flatbed often, then quick release fasteners hasten the process of detaching the needed components of the frame before transportation. Also, lowered vehicles may find this advantageous when climbing curbs and such, as the bumper needs to be removed for the extra ground clearance.
When would I need quick release fasteners?
While more and more vehicles are making use of this product for convenience or a type of mod style, make sure to know your car before making a purchase. Ask yourself how often you would need to remove either the front or rear bumpers or even the hatch lid and see if it’s a worthy buy. It’s also noteworthy to know that this type of mod is permanent and you will need to drill holes in your vehicle in order to install them.
How are quick release fasteners installed?
These can be installed at home or in the comfort of your garage. They are normally simple to install but even that depends on your vehicle’s frame. Some vehicles will have brackets in awkward positions and may require more work. However, the easiest type of quick release fasteners would be those with rubber band-style fasteners. Of course, if you’re one looking for a discreet mod of this type, rubber-band fasteners do stick out like a sore thumb on any vehicle’s bumper.
However, they are fairly easy to install:
1. Mark the spot
With your quick release fastener kit in hand, mark the area of your bumper where you would like it installed.
2. Start drilling
Next, you will need to drill holes on your markings.
Take the aluminum knot and install it on the outer side of the bumper. Place the washer on the inner side to keep it in place. Do the same for the fender.
You will need your wrench to fasten the knot and washer together to keep it in place. Be sure to use the appropriate size of tool to tighten it properly.
